RETAKE POLICIES & PROCEDURES |
published: 11.20.15
Retake Forms…
To re-take a test, students are to attach the original test to the item analysis form and the intervention that’s been used to correct the un-mastered assessed skills. A parent’s signature is also needed. The retake forms are found in a vertical file rack located on the extra student desk at Table 6 in the classroom. Each particular form is color coded for easy access. Literacy retake forms are yellow; math retake forms are white; science retake forms are green; and SS retake forms are blue. To see the forms go to http://www.flyparsons.org/retakes.html
FYI: quizzes are found at the class assessment website. Go to parsonsassessments.weebly.com
There are some "retakes" that do not require the retake form since the purpose of retakes is to master 6th grade skills, not correct poor habits of study and perseverance with assignments.
1. To revisit a low grade on Scholastic News and TFK, students are to write a paragraph for each missed question stating the correct answer and support it with the text.
2. To get a retake grade on a low spelling test, students are to write each missed word correctly 10-15 times to help reinforce the correct spelling of the word.
3. To get a retake grade on a low vocab test, students are to write the full dictionary.com definition to each missed word 5 times each. Hopefully this will motivate students to be diligent in preparation for weekly tests. Mr. P has Quizlet available for the entire week leading up to these tests. Students who do not procrastinate and utilize the Quizlet resources throughout the week typically score significantly higher compared to waiting until the night before the test.

The first robotics club session was Friday, February 27. Sessions will be each Friday until May. We do need snacks to be donated each week. To sign up for which snacks and which week you can provide them, go to the “HOME-SCHOOL” button on the class website. That link may be found anywhere you see the little blue icon on www.flyparsons.com. Each week’s session runs 3:00PM-5:00PM. The link on the website also contains photos, videos and an overview of each week’s plans. Every student in our class should plan to come to as many sessions as possible. Below is an overview of weeks 1-2.
Week #1- Think Like a Scientist
Students will do activities and projects that allow you to follow the path like robotic scientists, engineers and inventors using teamwork do. Students will make observations and sort materials based on selected attributes and properties of an object.
Week #2- Angry Marshmallows- Catapult
Students will use scientist and engineering properties to plan, design, and build a swinging arm trebuchet- style catapult to launch marshmallows. Building materials will include paper towel rolls, craft sticks, rubber bands and other materials from everyday life. Our class will begin Quest Atlantis in January. The Atlantis Remixed Project and Quest Atlantis have supported students and teachers in conducting rich inquiry-based explorations through which students learn standards-based content, and develop pro-social attitudes regarding significant environmental and social issues. Rather than just placing work and play side-by-side, the ARX Project strives to make learning fun and to show kids they can make a difference.
In addition to aligning student work with these standards, all Quests are also associated with an idea about what it means to use this knowledge in a socially responsible manner. Participation in this game is designed to enhance the lives of children while helping them grow into knowledgeable, responsible, and empathetic adults. The ARX project hopes to foster an awareness of seven critical dimensions in order to actualize them in the lives of children:
• Compassionate Wisdom - "Be Kind"
• Creative Expression - "I Create"
• Environmental Awareness - "Think Globally, Act Locally"
• Personal Agency - "I Have Voice"
• Healthy Communities - "Live, Love, Grow"
• Social Responsibility - "We Can Make a Difference"
• Diversity Affirmation - "Everyone Matters"
